Remarkable history, from the owner: THE JOHN MURDOCK HOUSE The John Murdock House Circa 1856 was built by the man that built the Old National Pike.A 2-story brick farmhouse on the western edge of South Mountain, originally known as "Racfoon: after the native nocturnal animal and later renamed " Resurvey at Well Done" when John Murdock purchased the property to build his home. This historic residence was made famous when General Thomas Stonewall Jackson and the black Horse Calvary visited and camped there on September 9-11th 1862 just days before the civil war battles. John Murdock was a supporter of the Confederates in the neutral state of Maryland and welcomes Stonewall Jackson and the 10-15,000 troops that set up headquarters across the street. Stonewall Jackson had received orders from General Lee to travel to Harper's Ferry and capture one of the largest arsenals and brigade of soldiers in U.S. history. This house was also used as a Civil war hospital during the Battle of South Mountain.This well built farmhouse has foot thick handmade brick walls, oak beams, chestnut trim and doors.
